The Nashville SC midfielder says he'll get tickets for his childhood friend after the actor gave him a surprise shoutout earlier this year.

NASHVILLE, TN - Alex Muyl made headlines earlier this year when A-list actor Timothée Chalamet gave him an unexpected shout out on comedian Theo Von's This Past Weekend podcast.

"I got a buddy on the Nashville soccer team whose name is Alex Muyl," said Chalamet, who grew up with Muyl in New York before either of their careers really took off. "I played ball with him growing up. He was just gifted, you know?"

"I could work my ass off, but if you don't have the gift of physical athleticism, you're cooked," Chalamet said. "Alex Muyl is a foot Mozart."

It's not Chalamet's first foray into soccer, or even MLS. The Dune and A Complete Unknown star hasn't been shy about his affinity for French Ligue 1 side Saint-Étienne, and was recently spotted on a press tour wearing a vintage Columbus Crew hoodie.

For Muyl, the shout out brought an unexpected boost in his profile. After coming through the New York Red Bulls academy, the versatile midfielder's work-rate has become somewhat legendary among MLS fans, but his other contributions have been more unheralded. The 29-year-old had a career-best the season before, scoring five goals in the 2024 season.

"I got a few texts," he told SixOneFive Soccer's Valair Shabilla at Nashville's training center on Thursday. "I got a lot of Instagram followers that were not usually my demographic, and I think that was what alerted me to it first."

“If he ever wants to a game, I got him tickets, not sure if he can afford them.” Y’all know I had to ask Alex Muyl about Timothée Chalamet shouting him out 😂 #EveryoneN

So should fans ever expect Chalamet to come watch a match at Geodis Park?

"He's got an open invite," laughed Muyl. "He's a world traveller, so it's hard for him. If he ever want to come to a game, of course!"

"I got him tickets. I don't know if he can afford them."
