Nashville SC winger Jacob Shaffelburg has been called up by the Canadian National Team for their upcoming Concacaf Nations League semifinal against Mexico on Thursday, March 20.

Shaffelburg, 25, has six goals in 20 caps for Canada and had a breakout season for his national team in 2025. The Nova Scotia native appeared in 12 of their 13 matches, scoring five goals and adding an assist, playing a crucial role in their shock run to the Copa América semifinals.

How will this impact Nashville?

Shaffelburg has yet to play for Nashville in 2025. The winger has missed all three of their matches with a thigh injury picked up in preseason, and hasn't been included in any of the match-day squads. Nashville travel to Philadelphia on Sunday to take on the Union, who have won each of their first three matches, and then take on CF Montréal on March 22.

Assuming Shaffelburg is fit, he should be able to participate in Nashville's match on Sunday. His participation against Montréal is less straightforward, and will depend both on the result of Canada's semifinal against Mexico and his fitness coming out of the match.

“He’s a menace running behind the back line, but we’re trying to make it more unpredictable.”
