NASHVILLE, TN - Nashville SC are in discussions to sign free agent midfielder Sean Davis, sources confirm to Broadway Sports Media. Out of contract with New York Red Bulls, the 28-year-old traveled to Nashville last week to hold in-person discussions over a potential move. Davis has met in person with other clubs as well. The Athletic‘s Sam Stejskal and Felipe Cárdenas were first to report Nashville’s interest, along with interest from Vancouver Whitecaps and Orlando City.
Davis is widely seen as one of the top players available in free agency. The central midfielder played every minute of the 2021 season for Red Bulls, and has served as the club captain for the last two seasons. A product of the Red Bulls academy, Davis has spent his entire professional career in New York.
Nashville SC currently have four central midfielders signed to their roster. Dax McCarty and Aníbal Godoy have formed the first choice pairing, with Brian Anunga playing over 1,000 minutes last season as the primary backup. After declining Matt LaGrassa’s option after the season, 2021 SuperDraft pick Irakoze Donasiyano is currently the only other midfielder on the roster. Donasiyano made one appearance for Nashville last season before going on loan in the USL Championship.
