Nashville SC sign defender Brent Kallman

NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville SC announced on Tuesday the signing of free agent center back Brent Kallman for the 2024 season.

Kallman, 33, played with Minnesota United from 2013-2023. He made 40 appearances with the club in NASL before their 2017 entry to MLS. In the top flight, he made 115 appearances for the Loons, scoring six goals and contributing to 15 clean sheets.

Kallman has seen his minutes decrease in recent seasons, playing just 248 minutes in 2023. He’s been reliable when available, though, and has the experience to step in and play whatever role Nashville need from him.

Nashville currently have a log-jam of center backs. Walker Zimmerman, Lukas MacNaughton and Jack Maher are all above-average starters, while Josh Bauer has proven to be a reliable depth option. Nick DePuy has been in preseason with the Coyotes and is expected to be brought back after missing all of last season with injury, and now Kallman is added into the mix.

Kallman’s long-term agent Matt Cairns was just hired as Huntsville City FC’s Director of Soccer Operations. With Nashville’s depth at the back, it’s certainly a possibility that Kallman ends up spending a good amount of time with the MLS NEXT Pro side, while his Nashville SC contract allows him to provide first-team cover without running into MLS NEXT Pro’s loan-up limits.
