NASHVILLE, TN – Just two days after their elimination from the USL Championship playoffs, Nashville SC have added two new pieces to their roster ahead of their debut season in Major League Soccer.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio, Nashville SC have acquired Dax McCarty from Chicago Fire for $50,000 in GAM, $50,000 in TAM and a second round draft pick.

Tenorio also reports that Nashville has sent $250,000 in allocation money to LA Galaxy for defender Dave Romney. Both deals will finalize when the MLS trade window opens on November 11.
McCarty, 32, has spent 14 seasons in MLS. After playing collegiately at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, he was drafted by FC Dallas 6th overall in the 2006 SuperDraft. Since then, he’s spent time with DC United, New York Red Bulls, and Chicago Fire, accumulating 29,281 minutes. McCarty is an experienced leader and has served as the club captain in DC, New York and Chicago.
He will immediately bring a wealth of experience to the expansion side. McCarty was acquired by Chicago just two years ago for $400,000 in allocation money. The $100k and draft pick Nashville gave up to get him looks like a really shrewd piece of business. McCarty will join a midfield that includes Panamanian international Aníbal Godoy and Costa Rican international Randall Leal.
Dave Romney was a fixture of the LA Galaxy defense under Bruce Arena, but saw his playing time limited in 2019 under Guillermos Barros Schelotto. Romney is a versatile defender, naturally more comfortable in the center, but able to play on the left. Romney is the first defender Nashville have signed.
McCarty and Romney bring the total number of players signed for next season to nine, joining Daniel Ríos, Cameron Lancaster, Derrick Jones, David Accam, Aníbal Godoy, Hany Mukhtar and Randall Leal. Financial information on the transfers can be found here.
