Tyler Boyd suffers season-ending injury

NASHVILLE, TN – Tyler Boyd will miss the remainder of the 2024 season, Nashville SC announced on Friday.

The 29-year-old winger suffered a torn ACL in the 92nd minute of Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Orlando City, going down without contact and twisting his knee awkwardly just 30 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Boyd was one of Nashville’s few attacking bright spots. In his first year in Music City, the U.S. international scored three goals and two assists in 24 appearances, including a goal in Nashville’s first-ever Concacaf Champions Cup match.

With Boyd on the season-ending injury list, Nashville will open up Boyd’s slot on the roster. Nashville made the official designation before the secondary transfer window opened on Thursday morning, meaning they are eligible for salary budget relief. This is a boost for Nashville’s ability to sign another player, with Boyd’s salary for the remainder of the season not counting against the budget charge. However, replacing a high-level player of Boyd’s caliber is no easy task, and certainly not on short notice.
